Please be aware of this potential scam.
Wiltshire residents are being warned of a telesales scam involving burglar alarms. People are receiving calls offering domestic alarm systems at cheap prices, but then buyers are required to sign up to a monitoring service which can cost up to £6,000. Buyers are also told the alarm system is linked directly to the local police, which is also untrue. Wiltshire Council wants anyone who receives the calls to report them to Trading Standards.
Police have been contacted by a village resident who has received a call of this nature- he states he is ex directory and receives very little unwanted calls due to a system he has installed on his phone which stops this kind of call. In spite of this, last week he received a call from a male stating he was from a burglar alarm company and stating that it would be directly connected to the Police. The call was terminated by the resident after stating he was not interested. The male is described sounding local- no particular accent.
